About Us
The Lake Forest Community Fund was established by Bruce Grieve, Bill Andersen, George Pandaleon and Marleana Cross. Each are longtime residents of Lake Forest. Between them they have served on many elected city boards and commissions including serving as mayor, member of the City Council, president of the District 67 Board of Education and president of the Historic Preservation Commission. George served two terms as mayor of Lake Forest, and was the recipient of the Lawrence J. Temple Community Service Award, which is the city’s highest honor. Marleana has been instrumental in developing philanthropy to support build and support Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital. All of them were inspired to create the fund to provide a much-needed source of long-term capital for the community’s many deserving philanthropic organizations.
We wish to thank Robert Napier of the law firm Harrison LLP for generously contributing his time in creating the formation documents of the Fund.
Lake Forest – A History of Civic Engagement
The Community Fund of Lake Forest (CFLF) is an outgrowth of that spirit and history. Specifically, it is designed to give residents who are passionate about our community an avenue to provide meaningful and evergreen support to the many deserving (and often underserved) 501(c)(3) charities that support the current and emerging needs of Lake Forest and its residents. Once launched, the Fund will join the ranks of some seven hundred and fifty community funds across the country similarly charged with providing support to their respective neighborhoods and residents.
Background
Background
Since its founding in 1855, Lake Forest has had a strong tradition of civic engagement by community members. This continues today with a broad range of roles in city government, school boards, commissions and countless committees, foundations and charities that are all filled by dedicated and energetic volunteers. Beyond these, Lake Forest residents gift their time to support our schools, churches, sports teams and much more. The Community Fund of Lake Forest (CFLF) is an outgrowth of that spirit and history. Specifically, it is designed to give residents who are passionate about our community a venue to provide meaningful and evergreen support to the many deserving (and often underserved) not-for-profits that mostly, if not exclusively, support the current and emerging needs of Lake Forest and its residents. The evergreen dynamic of CFLF comes via its structure as an endowment that invests donations in a managed portfolio of equities and debt instruments such that it can deliver annual proceeds between 5% and 7% per annum. Therefore, a single gift can help support valued charities in Lake Forest for years to come.
